From classic and vintage styles, to the modern and hip... length is an important consideration when creating a necklace.
Collar Length
12" or 30cm length: Victorian era style of necklace - made to sit high up on the neck section. This type normally features a number of strands of beads.
Choker Length
16" or 40cm length: A necklace designed to sit on the base of the necklace, this style goes really well with off the shoulder fashions.
Princess Length
19" or 47.5cm length: The most popular length of necklace. It is the perfect length for complimenting plunging necklines. Also perfect for supporting focal pieces and pendants.
Matinee Length
24" or 60cm length: Longer than the princess length this is perfect to wear over sweaters and blouses. Normally associated with necklaces that are stranded fully with beads.
Opera Length
34" or 85cm length: This necklace is the long classic length that normally can be wrapped twice around the necklace and drapped over clothes.
Lariat Length
45" or 112.5cm length: The lariat length normally consists of a long piece of beading quite commonly without a clasp that is just wrapped around and knotted in the middle to dangle really long. It can also be a long strand tassle that has a toggle in the centre.
Generally speaking all longer necklace styles accentuate the bust area, where as shorter necklace styles accentuate the neck area.
